Microsoft is currently testing a new functionality in its Edge browser that allows users to easily clear their browsing history and cache. The feature was spotted by Twitter user Leopeva64 in the Canary version of Edge, which is the earliest testing stage for the browser.
The new feature introduces a trash can icon within the History hub of Edge. Clicking on the icon takes users directly to the clear data panel, where they can select the specific data they want to remove, such as cache, browsing history, download history, or cookies. Although technically a two-click process, the shortcut to access the clear data panel streamlines the clearing process.
This is not the first change Microsoft has made to the History hub. Last month, the company extended the length of the History hub to accommodate more browsing history, allowing users to view a larger portion of their browsing activity at once.
Microsoft has been actively working on refining the interface of Edge overall. One recent addition is a darker dark mode, which features a fully black interface instead of a dark gray one. However, this change is also in the Canary channel, meaning it is still in the testing phase.
Another noteworthy development is a glimpse of a new Settings panel that gives users the ability to enable or disable optional features in Edge. This feature has the potential to help manage the browser’s growing list of functionalities and address concerns about its increasing complexity.
As Microsoft continues to enhance Edge’s user experience, these ongoing interface updates and new features aim to provide users with a more streamlined and customizable browsing experience. While currently in testing, these changes demonstrate Microsoft’s commitment to refining its browser and addressing user feedback.
