According to sources, Microsoft’s long-awaited xCloud streaming device is undergoing significant alterations. The dedicated streaming dongle was first unveiled in June 2021, but the firm claimed in a statement to Windows Central that it has shifted away from the “current iteration” of the gadget, codenamed Keystone.
It’s unclear what these modifications are, and Microsoft did not respond immediately to a request for comment. A specialized Xbox streaming device, on the other hand, holds a lot of promise. While the Xbox Series X is more widely available than the PS5, it is still not the most affordable system, costing hundreds of dollars. A (supposedly) cheaper streaming stick may be a more inexpensive method for many people to try out the games Microsoft offers via the cloud, like Epic Games’ Fortnite, which was released this month.
And Microsoft isn’t just working on a streaming gadget; it’s also developing an Xbox app for TVs. While Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer stated in November 2020 that “I think you’re going to see that in the next 12 months,” VentureBeat claimed on May 6th that an Xbox game streaming app for Samsung smart TVs “should arrive within the next 12 months.” According to VentureBeat, the streaming device will be available within the next 12 months.
While we don’t know when Microsoft plans to disclose more information about these initiatives, a large showcase is scheduled for June 12th.
