Generative AI is all the rage right now, and after a patient wait, it looks like Microsoft 365 Copilot is now generally available for the public, but but but, there’s a catch that could burn a hole into your wallet, locker, bank account, stocks, and any other place where you have your money invested. Why?
Well, to answer your question, if you want to use the absolutely incredible Microsoft 365 Copilot, you will have to shell out a staggering $9,000 per month on top of your existing Microsoft 365 enterprise subscription. The company is confident that users will find this justifiable given the immense capabilities of their Copilot tool.
The general availability of Microsoft 365 Copilot was announced on November 1, and at launch, the company confirmed that the tool will support a host of languages at launch – English (US, GB, AU, CA, IN) , Spanish (ES, MX) , Japanese, French (FR, CA), German, Portuguese (BR), Italian, and Chinese Simplified.
Now, you must be wondering how the $9,000 figure comes up in case of the subscription.
You see, when Microsoft announced the availability of Microsoft 365 Copilot, Google were already a few months into introducing their own Generative AI, namely the Google Duet AI for Workspace. So, in order to stay on par with the competition, it seems that Microsoft replicated the price strategy. This means that both Google Duet AI for Workspace and Microsoft 365 Copilot will both cost organisations $30 per user each month in addition to their existing subscriptions.
For Microsoft customers, this implies an additional $30 on top of their E3 and E3 licences, which cost $36 and $57 per person each month depending on an annual commitment in the case of Microsoft 365, respectively.
The caveat is that in order to utilise Microsoft 365 Copilot, organisations must commit to purchasing at least 300 seats, which will cost at least $9,000 per month just for generative AI, or $19,800 per month when combined with a Microsoft 365 E3 licence.
Surprisingly, there have been a lot of positive feedback for this new announcement from Microsoft, but it remains to be seen how many enterprises utilise this generative AI tool, but at the moment this is all we know.
