Although the $1500 Meta Quest pro has just recently gone on sale, the business is already promoting the next edition in its series of less expensive VR headsets. Outgoing CFO Dave Whener said on the company’s most recent earnings call that “the next generation of the consumer Quest headset” would be available “later next year.”
In addition, Mark Zuckerberg mentioned the “next iteration of our consumer Quest headgear.” He didn’t say anything about the gadget, but it seems like he was referring to the Meta Quest 3. It’s unclear when it will be available, although the business has previously debuted new headsets in the autumn to coincide with its annual Connect event.
This isn’t the first time Zuckerberg has brought up Quest 3. He told analyst Ben Thompson earlier this month that a Quest 3 was in the works, adding that it would most likely cost between $300 and $500. That would put it on par with earlier Quest headsets, such as the $299 Quest 2, rather than the current Quest Pro.
While the Quest 3 may be a lower-cost gadget than the Quest Pro, there are indications that Meta may integrate certain features from the higher-end VR headset. According to UploadVR, Zuckerberg has said that face and eye tracking would be “a key priority,” and at least one early rumor says that the Quest 3 may contain “pancake lenses” akin to the Quest Pro.
