McAfee Launches Groundbreaking Scam Protection Tool: AI-Powered Defense Against Phishing Threats

Combining AI and Human Threat Intelligence, McAfee Unleashes Real-Time Phishing Scam Defense

McAfee, a renowned cybersecurity firm known for its top-notch antivirus software, has introduced an innovative tool designed to detect and block phishing scams in real time. This cutting-edge solution leverages the capabilities of artificial intelligence (AI) and the expertise of human threat intelligence to automatically identify and warn users about dangerous URLs within messages before they can open them.

McAfee Scam Protection is now available free of charge for all existing customers. To access this tool, users simply need to update their McAfee Security app.

In the ongoing battle against AI-enhanced scams, Greg Johnson, McAfee’s Chief Executive Officer, stated, “Today, cybercriminals are using artificial intelligence to dramatically improve the accuracy, sophistication, and speed of an attack, making it harder than ever to tell real from fake.” Phishing scams currently rank as the most significant cybersecurity threat worldwide, with malicious sites being created at an alarming rate of one every 11 seconds. Cyber attackers are harnessing AI to craft malware, execute ransomware attacks, and deploy phishing messages that can even deceive the most vigilant users.

This is precisely where McAfee’s new Scam Protection tool proves invaluable. Upon receiving permission, the tool systematically scans all incoming messages, preemptively alerting users to any malicious URLs before they can click on them. This proactive protection covers emails, text messages, social media, and web browsers.

Marc Vos, Product Reviews Manager at McAfee, emphasized the seamless and automatic nature of the technology, allowing users to remain relaxed rather than constantly vigilant.

McAfee Scam Protection currently supports Android, iOS, Chrome, Safari, Microsoft Edge, and Firefox. However, the text alert feature is currently exclusive to Android, with plans for an iOS release scheduled for October.

McAfee assures users that their privacy remains uncompromised, as the scan solely focuses on identifying URLs, ensuring data security.

While existing McAfee subscribers can immediately access the Scam Protection tool, new customers can experience its benefits through a free seven-day trial of McAfee Mobile Security. Following the trial period, the security suite is available for $2.99 (£2.29) per month or $29.99 (£25.99) for an annual plan.

The launch of McAfee Scam Protection aligns with the company’s shift in focus, which began in 2021. It transitioned from solely protecting devices to prioritizing the protection of individuals, acknowledging the evolving landscape of cybersecurity threats.
