LG Display’s recent announcement about its Q2 earnings included a mention of its plans to focus on gaming and transparent displays in the future. The company has already showcased its transparent OLED TV technology at events like CES, demonstrating its potential use in various applications.
Transparent OLED displays work similarly to regular OLED displays but are made of transparent components, allowing them to be up to 85% transparent when turned off. This technology opens up possibilities for turning windows and glass surfaces into screens to display information, advertisements, or entertainment.
LG’s vision for transparent OLED displays includes lifestyle applications in homes. For example, a window could become a TV screen or vice versa, offering a versatile and unobtrusive display when not in use. The company has also showcased concepts like the OLED Shelf, where two 55-inch transparent OLED panels hang from a wall shelf, and Show Window, which incorporates a transparent panel into a meeting room window for displaying videos and touchscreen elements while maintaining a clear view of the outside world.
While transparent OLED technology is still in its early stages, LG’s commitment to developing this technology suggests that it may become a prominent feature in the future, potentially changing the way we interact with displays in our homes and various environments.
