Kobo Unveils Enhanced Elipsa 2E E-ink Tablet to Compete with Kindle Scribe

Kobo, a subsidiary of Rakuten, has announced the launch of its latest e-reader, the Kobo Elipsa 2E, which aims to compete with the Kindle Scribe and reMarkable 2 in the e-ink tablet market. Priced at $400, the Kobo Elipsa 2E offers several improvements over its predecessor, including a better stylus, enhanced lighting and color-temperature adjustments, and a faster processor.

The Kobo Elipsa 2E features a 10.3-inch e-ink touchscreen with a resolution of 300ppi, providing crisp and clear text for an improved reading experience. The device also includes ComfortLight Pro, a feature that adjusts the front light’s color temperature and brightness to reduce eye strain during extended reading sessions. Kobo claims that the battery life has been improved, especially when using the stylus, although exact details are not provided.

One of the key upgrades in the Kobo Elipsa 2E is the improved stylus, called the Kobo Stylus 2. It is rechargeable and 25 percent lighter than its predecessor, making it more comfortable to use for note-taking and highlighting. The stylus also includes an “eraser” on its back end and a separate highlighter button for added convenience. The optional SleepCover for the device also comes with a magnetic attachment for storing the stylus when not in use.

In addition to the hardware upgrades, Kobo also announced the launch of Kobo Plus, its subscription service for e-books and audiobooks. Starting at $8 per month for either e-books or audiobooks, or $10 per month for both, Kobo Plus offers unlimited access to over 1.3 million e-books and 100,000 audiobooks.

The Kobo Elipsa 2E is available for pre-order starting April 5th on Kobo’s website, with the official launch date set for April 19th. Customers who pre-order the device in the US, UK, and Australia will receive a $25 Kobo e-gift card for digital reading content. The e-reader will be available in various countries globally, including the US, Canada, UK, Australia, and several countries in Europe and Asia. With its improved features and competitive pricing, the Kobo Elipsa 2E aims to be a strong contender in the e-ink tablet market, challenging the dominance of the Kindle Scribe and other similar devices.
