If you are using a Windows 11 machine, chances are that whenever you try to save an image online, the seemingly ‘.jpg’ file gets saved as a ‘.jfif’, which can be problematic as it cannot be used in a host of platforms, rendering the effort useless.
Thankfully, there is a quick fix to this, and soon enough, jfif images will start getting saved as .jpg files again. In this guide, we are going to guide you step by step, to achieve this.
Without further ado, let’s get started –
Note – To achieve this outcome, you will have to edit the registry, so ensure you follow each step closely, and re-read the points if you do not understand in the first go. Now, let’s begin.
Step 1. Click on the Windows search bar that is usually found on the taskbar.
Step 2. In the search window, type in ‘Registry Editor”, and click on the application to open it up.
Step 3. You will find a bar on the top of the Registry editor, where you can paste in the exact location you want to head to. In that bar, copy and paste this – Computer\HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\MIME\Database\Content Type\image/jpeg.
Step 4. You will now see the registry settings that are currently applied for native JPEG images. Here, in the extension section, you will see that it is jfif.
Step 5. Double click on ‘Extension’, and you will see a pop-up window, where you can change the extension type.
Step 6. Here, simply select and backspace ‘jfif’, and type in ‘.jpg’
Step 7. Click on the OK, and you are done.
Now, whenever you right-click save an image, the native jpeg file will be saved as .jpg, making it ready to use in your projects and applications.
