Third Wave, a Japanese technology company, has unveiled its groundbreaking “Raytrek Cloud” service, designed to make high-performance computing for generative AI, simulations, and computer-aided design (CAD) accessible to users from their personal computers. The service breaks down the barriers to entry by enabling users to harness the power of AI without the need for top-of-the-line PCs or high-end GPUs.
AI Power Without Hardware Limitations
Raytrek Cloud offers a novel approach to AI compute resources. Instead of requiring users to have top-tier hardware, Third Wave indirectly leases the computing power necessary to execute AI workloads. This approach democratizes access to AI capabilities, allowing a wider range of users to benefit from this technology as AI continues to gain prominence.
Commitment to AI Servers and Workstations
Third Wave is actively focusing on servers and workstations optimized for AI applications. Raytrek Cloud is a pivotal part of this strategy, allowing users to leverage cloud-based AI resources. The company is also involved in the development and distribution of specialized hardware tailored to the demands of AI workloads.
Expansion of Product Line
Third Wave has introduced five new products, including the X4630 workstation, featuring a 4th-Gen Xeon Scalable processor and NVIDIA’s RTX6000 Ada GPU. This expansion of the product line aligns with the company’s reorganization into the GALLERIA brand for consumer and gaming PCs and the Raytrek brand for enterprise-centric hardware.
Anticipating a Data Explosion
The launch of Raytrek Cloud is timely, given the explosive growth in available data. Over the past decade, data production has surged by a factor of 60, setting the stage for increased demand for AI processing capabilities.
Addressing Power Consumption Concerns
Akiya Ida, Director, Senior Executive Officer, and VP of Third Wave, pointed out the power consumption challenges posed by data centers used for cloud services. He anticipates that future AI systems will rely on both cloud-based and on-premises solutions. Raytrek Cloud offers a sustainable alternative for businesses to harness AI power efficiently.
Versatile Applications
Raytrek Cloud opens new avenues for businesses. It provides a remote workstation accessible through a Desktop as a Service (DaaS) model, facilitating tasks like CAD and building information modeling (BIM). Additionally, users can tap into the GPU service to execute AI workloads, including generative AI and high-performance computing simulations.
Affordable and Flexible Access
One of Third Wave’s primary objectives is to become a cost-effective AI cloud service provider. They aim to offer monthly fees that are 50% to one-third less expensive than major cloud companies. The service operates on a pay-as-you-go basis, allowing users to utilize it on an hourly basis or in smaller increments.
