Is Toyota’s EPU Electric Pickup on the Verge of Production? The Battle for Greenlight

Calty's EPU Concept Awaits Final Decision

At the Japan Mobility Show, Toyota showcased an impressive array of concepts, but one particular vehicle, the EPU Concept (Electric Pickup), garnered significant attention as it appeared ready for production. A recent report reveals that Toyota’s Calty Design Research Center in California has been diligently working on this electric pickup for three years. Yet, the project has not received the final green light for production.

Regional Push for Production: An unnamed executive from Toyota Motor North America spoke with Automotive News, indicating that their region of the company is strongly advocating for the EPU’s production. However, the ultimate decision rests with the Toyota Motor Corporation headquartered in Japan. The primary challenge appears to be achieving a cost that does not closely align with the Tacoma, thus maintaining affordability.
