Apple has officially taken the wraps off its iPhone 15 lineup, but as is customary, the company hasn’t disclosed every individual specification for its new phones. Therefore, we turn to other sources and teardowns to gather a comprehensive understanding of these devices.
Recently, specific battery capacities for all four iPhone 15 models surfaced, thanks to a filing with a regulatory body in China, spotted by MySmartPrice (as reported by Android Authority). The good news is that there’s a slight improvement in battery capacities compared to the 2022 models.
Here are the listed battery capacities for the iPhone 15 series: 3,349mAh for the iPhone 15, 4,383mAh for the iPhone 15 Plus, 3,274mAh for the iPhone 15 Pro, and 4,422mAh for the iPhone 15 Pro Max. Apple claims that these phones offer up to 20, 26, 23, and 29 hours of battery life, respectively.
For comparison, the iPhone 14 lineup had the following battery capacities: 3,279mAh for the iPhone 14, 4,325mAh for the iPhone 14 Plus, 3,200mAh for the iPhone 14 Pro, and 4,323mAh for the iPhone 14 Pro Max. While the iPhone 15 models show a slight increase in capacity, it’s not a significant year-over-year advancement.
It’s essential to note that the quoted hours of battery life mentioned for the iPhone 15 series, which are based on video playback, are exactly the same as those Apple listed for the equivalent iPhone 14 models. This suggests that any capacity increase may have been offset by additional power demands elsewhere in the device, although the exact reasons remain unclear.
Earlier leaks had hinted at substantial battery capacity upgrades for the iPhone 15, but it appears those expectations haven’t been met. It’s important to remember that battery life depends on multiple factors beyond just battery capacity, including the screen’s size and brightness, the chipset’s speed, and the efficiency of the internal modem.
