Instagram has solved a recent problem that eliminated the sound from downloaded Reels video clips from the editing interface. The glitch affected iOS users and harmed creators who use Reels as a recording tool before exporting to other platforms such as TikTok.
The problem looks to have been repaired on our end as well. We were able to download a clip from the Instagram Reels, complete with sound, in a test this afternoon, just as we did before the problem. This workaround will assist producers in circumventing TikTok’s weak editing tools by using features such as green screen in Reels for use in films destined for other platforms.
TikTok and Instagram have been locked in a struggle for supremacy in short-form video, but Instagram has been forced to dial back some of its more aggressive TikTok-like features for the time being. This was a sad incident, but it’s also a reminder that TikTok has to improve its editing capabilities.
