In 2023, Diablo IV will unleash the blood waves

Diablo IV, the next major installment in Activision Blizzard’s popular dungeon-crawling series, will be released in 2023, according to the company on Sunday. When it is released, it will be available on PC, Xbox Series X / S, Xbox One, PS5, and PS4, with cross-platform play and progression. And, as with previous Diablo games, there will be a lot of blood. There are actual blood waves.

Activision Blizzard revealed the fifth playable class, Necromancer, in addition to previously announced classes such as sorceress, barbarian, druid, and rogue. In a press release, the company stated, “Fight with aggressive skeleton Warriors, fast-attacking Skirmishers, sword and board Defenders, or scythe-wielding Reapers.” “Use Skeleton Mages to cast a slew of spells, imbuing them with shadow, cold, and sacrificial magics.” Tanking Bone Golems, health-stealing Blood Golems, and charging Iron Golems should all be deployed. Alternatively, sacrifice them all in order to absorb their power.”

The announcement comes on the heels of the free-to-play Diablo Immortal, which was released earlier this month on smartphones and PC. That game has come under fire for how much it can cost to obtain the best gear. Diablo III, which was released in 2012, also had a rocky start. Hopefully, Activision Blizzard can avoid a similarly rocky Diablo IV release.

Diablo IV will be a “full-priced game” designed “exclusively for PC / console audiences,” Diablo global community lead Adam Fletcher announced on Twitter. “The game is massive, and there will be tonnes of content for all players after launch.” Paid content is based on optional cosmetic items, which will eventually lead to full expansions. More information will be available soon!”
