Big changes are coming to your Google Drive storage game. If you’ve been saving your WhatsApp convos to Drive, listen up. Starting December 2023, the space it takes up will count towards your Google storage quota if you’re rocking the beta version. The rest of you non-beta folks will catch up next year.
Now, I know we get 15GB for free, but with all those pics and files, it’s easy to max out. No worries, though—Google’s got tools to help you manage that clutter. They’ve got links to storage management tools in their post, making it easy to clean up. You can also nix stuff from within WhatsApp to keep your backups nice and trim.
If you’re not a fan of the storage squeeze, you can always throw a few bucks at Google One for extra space. Prices start at $2 a month for 100GB. And hey, Google promises some special deals for eligible users soon, so keep an eye out for those.
Remember, this change only hits your personal Google account. If you’re rolling with a Workspace account for work or whatever, WhatsApp won’t munch on your cloud storage space.
