Do not be worried if you have a sense of déjà vu. The matrix is not faulty. Tencent, Honor of Kings’ publisher, has technically done this before with Arena of Valor, a westernized version of Honor of Kings, published in 2017.
Honor of Kings is a 5v5 multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) game, akin to Riot’s League of Legends and Valve’s DOTA 2. In Honor of Kings, players can design their teams using heroes from Chinese mythology, and the game offers rich social features such as chat integration that uses famous Chinese social networks such as QQ and WeChat. It’s unclear whether these capabilities will be included in the global version of Honor of Kings or if they’ll be replaced with Western-focused apps like Facebook Messenger or WhatsApp.
