Google Workspace is introducing a new update that aims to improve the integration between Microsoft Outlook and Google Calendar, addressing a common pain point for users who rely on both platforms.
Previously, when a Microsoft Outlook user invited a Google Calendar user to a meeting event, the Outlook user’s display name would not appear in the list of meeting attendees on Google Calendar. However, with the new update, Google Workspace is addressing this issue by ensuring that any Outlook user who organizes a meeting will now be listed as the meeting organizer in Google Calendar.
This change is rolling out gradually and will have a significant impact on users who frequently use both Outlook and Google Calendar. The update will apply to all Google Workspace customers and users with personal Google Accounts, and it does not require any action from users.
This enhancement follows recent efforts by both Google and Microsoft to improve the interoperability between their platforms. In May 2023, an update allowed better collaboration between Outlook and Google Calendar users, enabling them to share their availability status and view each other’s schedules.
Microsoft Teams, another collaboration service from Microsoft, has also introduced a recent tweak to make syncing Outlook email calendars with Teams smoother. With this update, changes made to a user’s calendar in Outlook will be reflected in their Teams calendar in real-time, enhancing synchronization and minimizing potential scheduling conflicts.
Overall, these improvements aim to enhance the user experience for individuals and organizations that rely on both Google Workspace and Microsoft Office tools for their productivity and communication needs.
