Google Workspace has expanded its AI capabilities with the addition of Duet AI, a text-to-image generation tool, to more accounts during its public testing phase. Powered by image-generation models including Imagen, Duet AI allows users to visualize their ideas and create images directly within Workspace.
How Duet AI Works:
Users can access the Duet AI tool through a pop-up interface that reads “Help me visualize.” Within the tool, users can enter commands in a text box to specify the desired image’s contents, colors, and styles. Duet AI generates eight image results based on the input, providing users with a range of options to choose from. The tool also offers predefined styles such as Photography, Background, Vector art, Sketch, Watercolor, Cyberpunk, and I’m Feeling Lucky.
Availability and Functionality:
Currently, Duet AI is being tested in Google Slides. Users with access to the tool can visit slides.new and will be prompted with the pop-up interface when it becomes available for them. However, it is important to note that image generation takes approximately 20 seconds, making it slower than Google’s AI writer, Bard, and its competitor, ChatGPT.
Considerations and Data Privacy:
As part of the testing phase, Google may involve human reviewers to read, annotate, and process interactions. Users are advised not to include personal, confidential, or sensitive information when using Duet AI or other Labs features to ensure data privacy.
The addition of Duet AI’s text-to-image generation tool in Google Workspace’s Slides provides users with a convenient way to visualize their ideas and create images directly within the platform. As Google continues to test and refine these AI capabilities, users can expect further enhancements to productivity and creativity within Workspace.
