Google Plans to Allow Companies to Use AI-Generated Ad Content, According to Reports

Google is reportedly preparing to integrate its generative artificial intelligence (AI) into its Performance Max program, allowing advertising customers to create sophisticated ad campaigns, according to a report from the Financial Times. The technology, the same that powers Google’s Bard chatbot, will reportedly generate advertisements based on imagery, video, and text supplied by the customer. Google will use the AI to ensure the ads fit the customer’s target audience and are designed to help them achieve their sales and business goals.

Performance Max already assists customers in deciding where their ads should run and generating simple ad copy. The AI’s integration will provide the capability to generate campaigns akin to those created by marketing agencies, providing an added layer of sophistication.

However, some have raised concerns about the potential for Google’s ad tool to spread misinformation. The Times report cites an example in which the Bard chatbot provided false information regarding exoplanets when advertised on Twitter. Google has assured customers that it will take measures to prevent errors and misinformation as it moves towards AI-generated ads.

Google has presented customers with a “AI-powered ads 2023” presentation, outlining the technology’s capabilities and potential. The feature is expected to be rolled out in the coming months, and the company will provide guardrails to ensure accuracy and reliability.
