Google may be working on a buttonless Pixel Watch

The wearable market is evolving at a steady rate, with brands walking cautiously, looking at each other’s innovations and implementing the best of them in their respective offerings. Apple has been winning the wearable race with their Apple Watch series, and what is truly special about the Apple Watch series is that there are no extra buttons on there. We do have a power button and the multi-function crown, but that is pretty much it. It looks like Google has been doing its homework, and reports are now coming out that, as per a new patent that has been filed by the tech giant, the Pixel Watch may be going buttonless soon.

“Content on such a small screen is easily obscured when touching the device, making it difficult to precisely select and scroll because the user cannot see what they are selecting or scrolling,” the patent noted.

The way Samsung may implement this is by attaching sensors along the sides of the Pixel Watch, and these sensors can take input from the user through gestures or taps on the designated spots. The patent in question has been titled ‘Gesture recognition on watch bezel using strain gauges’, and it is in this document that we have seen the suggestion that the Pixel Watch could be squeezable. Now, to begin with, Google may not increase the size of the Pixel Watch display, and instead, resort to reducing the bezel of the display to give people more screen real estate.

Finally, some of the images in the patent indicate that the home button and the crown will be removed and Google may just beat their close competitors to a fully buttonless wearable device.
