Google is finally introducing device-specific Play Store reviews

Google has begun to roll out a feature that might make assessing applications in the Play Store much simpler – it will only display reviews tailored to the device you’re using, whether it’s a phone, tablet / foldable, Chromebook, Android Auto, or wearable. The shift, which was revealed in August 2021 as arriving in “early 2022,” comes as Google prepares to introduce its own tablet and wearable.

This feature is becoming increasingly important as Android apps spread to more form factors; someone running an app on Google’s upcoming Pixel Tablet will experience it very differently than someone running it on a Chromebook, and people with folding phones will likely be interested in how an app works on a large screen. And if you’re attempting to install an app on your WearOS wristwatch, you don’t want to have to go through a slew of reviews about the app’s phone version.

The system has a few limitations. Tablets and foldable are grouped together. While it makes sense for devices like the Galaxy Z Fold and Surface Duo, which have 7.6-inch and 8.3-inch screens, respectively, it doesn’t seem like the Galaxy Z Flip, with its 6.7-inch screen, belongs in the same category as the 14.6-inch Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra. While this is unlikely to be an issue for most users, the system may behave strangely in extreme instances.

It’s also worth noting that the shop is based on your device type rather than the individual gadget you have. The Play Store, on the other hand, allows you to accomplish this manually. When you go into an app’s ratings and reviews area, you can instruct it to just display your reviews for your device model by tapping the three-line filter button that appears before the reviews begin.
