Google Halts New Domain Registrations, Transitioning Customers to Squarespace

Google Ends Domain Sales to New Customers, Shifts Focus to Squarespace

Squarespace’s Acquisition of Google Domains Assets

On September 7, Squarespace announced the successful completion of its acquisition of the assets associated with Google Domains. New customers interested in domain registration are now directed to make their purchases through Squarespace, marking a significant change in Google’s approach to its domain business.

Transition Period for Existing Google Domains Customers

While Google has ceased new domain registrations, existing Google Domains customers will retain access to their online dashboards during an undisclosed “transition period.” Following this transition period, Squarespace will facilitate the migration of these customers to its own platform. Although TechRadar Pro sought clarification on the exact timing of this transition from Squarespace, no immediate response was received. Google’s statement indicates that customers and their domains will be transitioned “over the next few months.”
