Remember when Google domains announced ‘.ing’ domains? Well, it looks like they decided to do one better and to that effect, they have officially announced that they are now going to be selling ‘.meme. domains. According to Google, the .meme domains will have to be centered around memes and the pursuit to spread some positivity and laughter in the world.
To showcase how to properly use the .meme domain, Google has teamed up with six companies and individuals, including ‘Know your meme’ and ‘Tenor’. Four other members in this program, include meme sites dedicated to cat memes, and these include Nyan Cat and Grumpy Cat. So, if you have been looking to create a website dedicated to memes, this is your opportunity to do so.
The Early Access Period for registering a .meme website has officially begun, but they are charging an extra one-time fee. The additional fee will be progressively reduced until December 5th, after which, the .meme domains will be available for the base annual fee. If you are interested in getting yourself a ‘.meme’ website, you can check of your desired domain name is available by heading to get.meme.
If the desired name is available, Google will show you a range of partners who are selling the domain, one of which is GoDaddy. You can proceed to buy the domain and start spreading some laughter and positivity in the world with your memes.
