GM Awaits FIA Decision on Andretti-Cadillac F1 Bid

General Motors (GM) has stated that it is anticipating a response from the FIA regarding their joint bid with Andretti to enter Formula 1 within the next 10 days.

Andretti Global, in collaboration with General Motors through Cadillac, aims to join Formula 1 as a new team starting from the 2025 season. In January, Andretti broke ground on a new factory in Fishers, Indiana, which will house their existing and future motorsport operations, including the Formula 1 team.

Dr. Eric Warren, Executive Director of Motorsports at GM, revealed that work is underway to build a car in time for the 2025 season. However, approval from the FIA and Formula 1 is still required for their entry into the grid.

The FIA initiated an “expressions of interest” process for potential new Formula 1 teams earlier this year, followed by a formal application process. Andretti and Cadillac submitted their joint bid in May.

Warren stated that GM has been engaged in active discussions with the FIA regarding their bid and expects a decision on their advancement to the next stage soon.

“We’ve had some dialogue with the Formula 1 group earlier on,” Warren said. “But at this point in time, it’s a formal process, so we’ve got to let it run its course.”

He added, “We’re spending a lot of effort going through the process, and the hard part is we’re trying to race in the 2025 season, so we’ve been going hardcore with Andretti to design the ’25 car. The application was May 15. Andretti Cadillac is the team name.”

GM has been actively involved in the application process, addressing queries from the FIA. The decision on their bid is expected to be made by July 15th.

Warren emphasized that GM’s involvement in the team is significant, and they are preparing for the future dynamics and growth of the team as well.

The wait for the FIA’s decision continues, and GM is committed to the formal process, ensuring they provide the necessary information and responses as required.
