Meaning – The term icon, refers to the graphic insignia that is used within the OS or other software packages, to represent features, areas, or the application as a whole. Interacting with icons with the mouse usually triggers an action, or at the very least, selects it for further operations.
Organizations or developers ensure that icons are creative and very distinct in appearance to help users quickly identify the desired feature or application within the package or on the system.
The term icon also refers to a graphical representation of an object (for example, a file or program) that consists of an image, an image background, and a label.
