George Russell took a break from the intense world of Formula 1 to enjoy some downtime and attend the highly anticipated UEFA Champions League final between Inter Milan and Manchester City. The Mercedes driver shared his excitement with fans as he posted pictures from his trip to Istanbul, where the final was held this year.
Early on Saturday, Russell shared a photo of himself flying into Istanbul, setting the stage for his Champions League adventure. He later delighted fans with an image of him alongside his father and brother, standing in front of a banner displaying the Champions League logo. Russell expressed his gratitude at being able to attend the pinnacle of club football, referring to it as a “pleasure.”
“Such a pleasure attending the Champions League final with my dad and brother,” Russell shared. “Good luck Manchester City and Inter Milan, let the best team win!!”
This year’s final featured Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City, who sought to end their Champions League drought while also aiming for a rare English treble. Their opponent was the Inter Milan side led by manager Simone Inzaghi, who showcased their prowess by defeating city rivals Milan on their path to the final.
It is worth noting that Russell is not the first Formula 1 star to enjoy a major football final. Just a day later, Lando Norris was spotted attending the Euro 2020 final between England and Italy at Wembley Stadium.
The timing of the Champions League final was ideal, occurring during a two-week break between Formula 1 races. Russell and the other 19 drivers will soon depart for Montreal, where the next race on the calendar, the Canadian Grand Prix, awaits them.
