FIA Sets the Record Straight with Firm Statement on Budget Cap Breach Rumors

The FIA has released a statement to clarify ongoing investigations into F1 teams’ compliance with the budget cap. Recent rumors suggesting that as many as three teams breached the 2022 Financial Regulations are “completely unfounded,” according to the sport’s governing body.

The FIA is currently in the process of auditing all 10 F1 teams to ensure they have adhered to the strict budget cap limit of $135 million for their entire car-related season spend. The rumors of breaches by teams, including Red Bull and Mercedes, are premature as the investigation is still ongoing, and no conclusive findings have been announced.

Last year, the FIA audited the 2021 season and found that Red Bull had exceeded the budget cap of $140 million in the first year of the Financial Regulations’ application. As a result, the team was fined $7 million and had 10 percent of their wind tunnel development time taken away.

The FIA’s statement aims to quell speculation and reminds the public that the investigation process is still underway, and any claims of breaches at this stage are unfounded. The governing body will release official findings once all teams have been thoroughly audited and assessed for compliance with the budget cap regulations.
