Sir Jackie Stewart, the iconic three-time Formula 1 World Champion, has revealed that he experienced a mini-stroke earlier this year while in Jordan following the Miami Grand Prix. The stroke occurred on the night before attending the wedding of Crown Prince Hussein of Jordan.
Stewart, who has maintained an active schedule as a team owner and brand ambassador since retiring from racing, admitted that the busy schedule leading up to the incident “all added up.” He had recently attended the Miami Grand Prix, followed by a night in the UK for a funeral and another night in Geneva before traveling to Jordan for the wedding.
Recalling the night of his medical emergency, Stewart mentioned feeling strange and then losing consciousness. He was taken to a hospital in Jordan, where he received excellent care. Stewart’s son Paul and his wife were present at the wedding, and Stewart somehow managed to find his son’s room and alert him to the situation.
Thanks to the support of medical professionals and the generosity of the Crown Prince of Bahrain, who offered his private plane, Stewart was swiftly transported back to Europe to begin physiotherapy. Over the past five weeks, he has undergone rigorous physiotherapy and has made significant progress in his recovery.
Stewart expressed gratitude for the care he received and stated that he can now walk almost perfectly. Despite his health ordeal, he is determined to attend the British Grand Prix at Silverstone this weekend.
“I am now doing a lot of physiotherapy, and I can walk almost completely perfectly. Everything’s going well—I am going to Silverstone for two days this weekend,” Stewart said.
Stewart’s openness about his experience serves as a reminder of the importance of taking care of one’s health, even in demanding and busy schedules.
