Apple’s next iOS will be available for download on your iPhone in the coming days: Apple said during its “Peek Performance” event that iOS 15.4 will be available within the next week. (iOS 15.4 will be pre-installed on the green iPhone 13 and 13 Pro, as well as the most recent iPhone SE.) Five beta versions of the operating system were released, including ones that included AirTag anti-stalking alerts, a gender-neutral Siri voice option, new emoji, Face ID upgrades, and the long-awaited Universal Control. The public beta of iOS 15.4 has since been released, and the final version of the operating system will be available for free on compatible iPhones when it becomes available.
As the name implies, iOS 15.4 is the fourth significant upgrade to iOS 15, which was released in September alongside the iPhone 13. These updates, which began with December’s iOS 15.1 release, have added new capabilities and enhanced old ones to Apple’s iPhone operating system. iOS 15.4 will be published in the same month as iOS 15.3.1, which addressed a security vulnerability in iPhones and iPads.
iOS 15.4 Release Date
Apple has not specified a specific release date for iOS 15.4, but the company has stated that the update will be available for free next week. According to Apple, the new green iPhone 13, the alpine green iPhone 13 Pro, and the new iPhone SE will all come preloaded with iOS 15.4.
How to Download the iOS 15.4 update when it arrives?
Once the iOS 15.4 update is seeding to all users, this is how you can install it on your compatible iPhone.
Step 1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
Step 2. In the settings menu, tap on the ‘General’ option.
Step 3. Next, in the general settings, tap on the ‘Software Update’ option.
You will now see the update available and you can download and install the same on your device.
Universal Control
Universal Control enables you to use additional devices as second screens, smoothly transferring content between them using only one device. This long-awaited feature was originally announced as part of macOS Monterey, but was postponed until the fall, with a new timeframe indicating “this spring.” Universal Control debuted in the iOS 15.4 beta and will be made available to the public alongside the Monterey OS 12.3 and iPadOS 15.4 releases.
Face ID with Masks
Apple is improving its Face ID feature to make it compatible with masks. Because the function verifies your identity using a smaller section of your face, you’ll need to be more accurate with the angle you hold your phone when using Face ID. Your phone will even prompt you if it requires you to look at the screen more directly. The revised feature should work for individuals who wear glasses but will not work for individuals who use sunglasses.
As long as you have an iPhone 12 or 13 running iOS 15.4, you can quickly enable the new setting, which uses the features around your eyes to authenticate that you are, in fact, you, even when wearing a mask.
However, if you own an older iPhone model or prefer not to update to iOS 15.4, there is another way to unlock your iPhone while wearing a mask — using your Apple Watch.
New Emoji
If you’re the type of person who takes pride in their ability to use emoji creatively and humorously, you’re going to adore iOS 15.4. The update includes 37 new emoji, including new options for pregnant people, hands forming a heart shape, a salute, and a lip-biting emoji, which is my personal favorite. These were presented last fall and feature a melting face, a crying face, a bird’s nest, coral, a lotus, a low battery, and kidney beans.
