Reports have emerged that some Evernote users are experiencing involuntary transfers from legacy subscription plans to more costly ones, as documented in comments on Reddit, as discovered by The Verge.
One Reddit user shared their surprise after their Evernote Plus subscription was automatically changed to Evernote Personal, with the only notification being a “Welcome to Evernote Personal” banner that caught their attention within the Evernote app.
Another user shared a similar experience, revealing that their subscription price had surged from $79 per year for Plus to a steeper $159 for Personal.
However, not all users were affected, as some reported that their Plus subscriptions remained unchanged, and they anticipated continuing to pay their existing rates.
The Reddit discussion prompted considerations of downgrading to the free tier or exploring alternative note-taking apps like Notion, which has gained popularity on social media, with creators endorsing the application.
Subsequent to the initial post, an update was provided: “Evernote has responded, stating that my account was mistakenly changed, and I am being reverted to Plus. I have verified, and I am back on the Plus plan.”
TechRadar Pro reached out to Evernote for clarification regarding whether this is an error impacting legacy account holders or if there are intentions to migrate users to current subscription tiers. However, the company had not responded to the inquiry at the time of reporting.
Earlier this year, the well-known note-taking app was acquired by the Italian company Bending Spoons. Subsequently, Evernote confirmed its relocation to Europe, leaving behind a wave of layoffs in the United States.
