Epic Games will host an in-person Fortnite competition in November

Epic Games has revealed plans to hold its first significant in-person competitive Fortnite tournament since the Fortnite World Cup in 2019.

The FNCS Invitational 2022 will be held on November 12th and 13th at the Raleigh Convention Center in North Carolina. “We will be inviting a selection of top FNCS Duos from around the world who will have the opportunity to compete in a single lobby for a share of a $1,000,000 prize pool,” Epic wrote in a blog post bylined by “The Fortnite Team.”

However, the business emphasizes that player health and safety are the top priorities for any in-person event and warns that if public health trends alter or area laws or guidelines change at any point this year, the event may have to be rescheduled.

It’s unknown whether Epic intends to have a Fortnite World Cup in 2023. The first and only Fortnite World Cup, held in 2019, was a three-day extravaganza with a $30 million prize pool. However, Epic started in April 2020 that there would be a World Cup owing to the COVID-19 pandemic, but by the end of that year, Epic stated that there would be no World Cup in 2021. Epic has continued to organize online Fortnite competitions, but the introduction of the FNCS Invitational 2022 suggests that Epic is aiming to host in-person tournaments again.

Fortnite’s current season is coming to a conclusion, and a major in-game event is scheduled for June 4th.
