Enhancing Your Work Experience: Google Workspace’s Beloved Apps Receive Game-Changing Duet AI Upgrades

Google is set to deliver a substantial AI boost to its daily Google Workspace apps through a significant update unveiled as part of the Google Next 23 announcements. The update brings full Duet AI interoperability to Google’s office software suite, promising to enhance efficiency and productivity across various Workspace apps.

Several widely-used Workspace apps will benefit from these changes, including:

  • Google Meet: This video conferencing tool will receive improvements in lighting and sound quality, automated translated captions, and real-time content snippets to enhance the overall meeting experience.
  • Google Sheets & Docs: These apps will benefit from enhanced content discovery tools, aiding users in efficiently locating and accessing relevant content.

Google introduced Duet AI during Google I/O 2023 as a response to the growing influence of AI in the productivity and collaboration landscape. Described as “the next wave of AI innovation in Workspace,” Duet AI aims to act as an intelligent, real-time collaboration partner, streamlining and simplifying work processes.

One notable example provided by Google illustrates how Duet AI can assist a financial analyst in quickly creating a presentation by responding to prompts like “create a summary of Q3 performance.” The system can generate a complete presentation, including text, charts, and images, by analyzing relevant content from Drive and Gmail, thereby reducing the need for manual data retrieval from multiple files.

In the context of Google Meet, Duet AI will enhance video conferencing meetings by improving lighting and audio quality, making it easier for participants to communicate effectively. It will also introduce automatic translated captions in 18 languages, real-time note-taking, and the ability to send recaps and summaries to meeting participants.

The “take notes for me” feature will capture notes, action items, and video snippets, sending out a meeting summary once the session concludes. Additionally, the “summary so far” feature will provide a recap of ongoing discussions for latecomers, while the “attend for me” tool allows Duet AI to represent users during meetings and send summaries on their behalf.

The new Duet AI features are available for Google Workspace users to try out, and new customers can take advantage of a no-cost trial to explore these enhancements.
