Elon Musk’s xAI is preparing to launch its first ever model

Elon Musk’s AI gang, xAI, is finally taking the wraps off its first AI model on November 4. Musk, doing his usual Twitter thing on X (the new Twitter, by the way), hinted that it’s hitting the hands of a “select group” and tossed in the claim that it’s a top-tier player in certain aspects.

xAI has been keeping it on the down-low since its big entrance in July, flaunting a squad of ex-engineers from Microsoft, Google, and even OpenAI. Musk spilled the beans during a chatty 90-minute Twitter Spaces session, sharing his master plan for xAI – crafting an AGI (that’s artificial general intelligence) on a mission to unravel the universe’s mysteries. Oh, and throwing a bit of shade at tech giants like Microsoft and Google because why not?

Now, are we about to meet an AI superhero ready to swoop in and chat like it’s straight out of a sci-fi blockbuster? Well, not exactly. What’s the dish for November 5? My bet is on a simple chatbot, let’s dub it “ChatX” – because Musk loves his letter ‘X’.

But here’s the real puzzle: Can ChatX go toe-to-toe with the heavyweights like Google Bard or the seasoned ChatGPT? The latter has been strutting its stuff for nearly a year, getting smoother with every update. Maybe – just maybe – xAI cracked the code on that tricky hallucination problem. Fingers crossed. On the flip side, ChatX might just be Musk’s new platform to share his thoughts and beliefs.
