Interestingly, Tesla reiterated its intention to manufacture the next-gen vehicle at the new Giga Mexico plant, emphasizing the ongoing work on infrastructure and factory design in parallel with the vehicle’s engineering development.
However, no mention was made of Tesla’s reported plans to potentially change the initial production location for the next-generation EV from Mexico to Austin, as mentioned in Walter Isaacson’s ‘Elon Musk’ biography.
Elon Musk also discussed the cautious approach being taken with the new factory in Mexico, stating, “In Mexico, we’re laying the groundwork to begin construction, but I think we want to just get a sense of what the global economy is like before we go full tilt on the Mexico factory.”
