EA and Koei Tecmo are teaming together to create “the next great hunting game.”

EA and Koei Tecmo are collaborating on a new product dubbed “the next great hunting game.”

The two firms characterize this new game as an original IP that “delivers a genuinely AAA experience centered on fantasy feudal Japan” in a press release. Omega Force at Koei Tecmo, famed for the Dynasty Warriors and Samurai Warriors “Musou” action games, will create it. According to an EA executive, Jeff Gamon, Omega Force is “combining their demonstrated aptitude for combat gameplay with surprising and creative concepts.”

Those features, together with the “hunting game” description, lead me to believe that the creators are developing something with Monster Hunter-style gameplay, in which you collaborate with other players to take out massive creatures. In contrast, Big Buck Hunter has simply glorified target practice.

Unfortunately, EA and Koei Tecmo did not reveal much more about the game, so we don’t know when it will be launched or on what platforms it will be accessible. However, Gamon states that the game will be released “later this month,” so we may not have to wait long to find out more.

This new title will bear the EA Originals branding, which the company has previously used to publish independent games such as It Takes Two and Knockout City.
