Dimensity 1080 with updated CPU, improved ISP, and 5G connection is unveiled by MediaTek

The Dimensity 1080, a new addition to MediaTek’s Dimensity range of smartphone CPUs, was introduced. It is the successor to the Dimensity 920, which was introduced last year, and it boasts improved performance and camera functions. By the end of the year, the processor should be available in mid-tier smartphones. Everything you need to know about the MediaTek Dimensity 1080 is right here.

The Dimensity 1080 processor is quicker in terms of processing and visuals than its predecessor. The chipset is powered by two ARM Cortex-A78 cores with a clock speed of up to 2.6GHz. There is also a power-optimized ARM Mali-G68 GPU. LPDDR5 memory and USF 3.1 storage are also supported by the chipset. Furthermore, the chip is built on a 6nm architecture, which makes it more power-efficient than the Dimensity 920.

The Dimensity 920’s image signal processor supports up to 200 MP main cameras and has a hardware-accelerated 4K HDR recording engine. A multi-core AI processing unit also enables the chipset to execute tricks like soft background blur and selective focus with a single camera. The CPU is capable of handling an FHD+ display with a refresh rate of up to 120Hz. Finally, the Dimensity 1080 supports sub-6GHz 5G connection as well as Wi-Fi 6.

Ch Chen, Deputy General Manager of MediaTek’s Wireless Communications Business Unit, stated upon the launch of the Dimensity 1080, “Continuing MediaTek’s legacy of optimising power and performance, the Dimensity 1080 offers a full suite of advanced features that challenge expectations about what a 5G smartphone can do.” This new chipset is intended to improve several of the features that distinguished its predecessor, such as processing power, camera and video quality, and manufacturer time to market.
