Prepare to encounter more advertising the next time you try to download an app on your iPhone. According to an email obtained by MacRumors, Apple will begin rolling out two new ad categories to the App Store on October 25th. Outside of China, the business intends to offer ad space inside the “Today” tab and at the bottom of individual app listings. When they appear, the adverts will have a blue backdrop and an emblem to identify them from other suggestions.
While Apple has been selling search advertisements via the App Store since 2016, the Today tab was previously reserved for editorial suggestions from the business. “With a Today tab ad, your app may feature prominently on the App Store’s main page — making it some of the first material visitors view when they begin their App Store visit,” the firm says on a support website.
In July, Apple stated that advertisements will be added to the Today tab. The expansion is part of the company’s larger attempt to develop its advertising business. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the corporation wants to roughly treble its advertising income to $10 billion per year in the coming years. Aside from additional App Store advertisements, the business is said to be planning to bring search ads to Maps in the near future.
