Audi’s impending entry into Formula 1, slated for 2026, has been generating buzz even though the German marque is still two years away from its debut. Recent rumors suggested that Audi might reconsider its participation in the sport before even entering it. However, the automaker has stepped up to dispel such speculations.
Audi is set to partner with the Sauber team, which is currently known as Alfa Romeo. The Hinwil-based squad is preparing to revert to its Sauber name for the 2024 and 2025 seasons before undergoing a rebranding as Audi starting in 2026. This long-awaited move marks the VW Group’s entry into the world of Formula 1.
Reports emerged in the French media recently, indicating that Audi might be contemplating a withdrawal from its planned takeover of the F1 team. These rumors suggested that the issue would be put to a vote with the company board at an upcoming meeting.
However, when approached for comment, an Audi spokesperson categorically denied these rumors. The statement from Audi emphasized the commitment to their F1 entry in 2026, stating, “Audi’s F1 entry in 2026 is based on a decision of the Board of AUDI AG in alignment with the Supervisory Board of AUDI AG, as well as the Board and the Supervisory Board of Volkswagen Group.”
Furthermore, Audi confirmed that the schedule for Audi Formula Racing GmbH, focusing on the development of the 2026 F1 Power Unit at their site in Neuburg, Germany, remains unchanged.
In essence, Audi’s statement reiterates their unwavering commitment to their planned entry into Formula 1 in 2026. The partnership with Sauber, the eventual transition to the Audi name, and the development efforts for the upcoming F1 season all continue as previously planned.
