If you are someone who is using an Apple Watch Series 9 or older and you have just updated to the WatchOS 10.1 version, you may have noticed a drastic battery drain issue. This issue was brought to light on social media, where users started posting screenshots of the battery life suddenly dipping to zero after merely an hour of usage. The matter picked up steam, and it was picked up and acknowledged by Apple.
Apple has since released an internal memo, stating that they have acknowledged this problem and are working on a software update to fix the issue. They have not mentioned exactly what the cause of the issue is, how many people have been affected by it. or how the update is going to work to fix the issue. This is typical of Apple, but they have demonstrated that they are capable of fixing issues like this in one go.
WatchOS 10.1 brought in the finger tap feature for eligible Apple Watch models, and yes, like most software updates, there are bugs, but no one expected it to have such a drastic impact on battery life. If you want to see the variations, you can head over to Reddit or Apple forums to see the drop off in battery life, rendering the powerful device unusable, after just a short time.
Along with this, Apple is also working on a software update that will fix the issue where iPhones seems to be mysteriously turning off overnight. We believe that the two software updates may be released at different times as the devices are different, and the severity of the problem and the ease of fix will be different.
Stay tuned to this space for more updates.
