As Apple prepares to launch their Vision Pro headset, Apple TV users have started seeing movies that have been tailored for the Vision Pro, featuring on the storefront. The movies have a 3D icon next to the them, in order to separate them from the rest. This was first reported by note analyst and tipster Flatpanels HD, who did some digging in the recently released tvOS 17.2 beta.
It also look like Apple will be revamping the Apple TV UI to possibly accomodate this new 3D content. At the moment, the Vision Pro 3D movies that are available include – Jurassic World Dominion, Pacific Rim Uprising, and Shrek.
Many of the movies that have been released do contain a 3D version, but at the moment, there are no original movies or series that have been released in this format. What we believe is that Apple has created a new file format for Vision Pro compatible files. Studios will have to port their content to this format before it can be seeded to the Store.
As far as original 3D content is concerned, Apple will most definitely allow creators to shoot videos and port them to the Vision Pro format, as long as they meet the necessary quality requirements.
The Vision Pro is definitely an iterative experiment and it will take a few versions for the device to really settle down in the market. However, by being upfront with creators, Apple can easily build a trove of content that can be leveraged in the short and long run.
Which movie would you love to experience in the 3D format? Let us know in the comments.
