Apple iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max to get bigger displays in 2024, report says

According to reliable tipster Ross Young, the upcoming Apple iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max could be the largest iPhones to date, featuring a significant increase in screen size. Young, an analyst at Display Supply Chain Consultants known for accurate predictions, suggests that the 16 Pro will sport a 6.3-inch screen, while the Pro Max will boast a 6.9-inch display.

Although Young initially stated the sizes as 6.2x inches and 6.8x inches, he clarified that they would be rounded up to 6.3 and 6.9 inches respectively, when considering two significant figures. This potential screen size increase would mark the first such change since the iPhone 12 series.

To provide context, the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max currently feature 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch screens respectively. Young also hints at the possibility of Apple altering the aspect ratio of the iPhones, although he doesn’t provide specific details. For reference, the iPhone 14 Pro Max has an aspect ratio of 19.5:9.

If these reports are accurate, it would further disappoint users who prefer smaller smartphones. Apple seemingly abandoned the iPhone mini range after the iPhone mini 13, opting instead to release the significantly larger iPhone 14 Plus. Additionally, rumors suggest that the iPhone SE 4 may never be released, potentially leaving fewer options for individuals seeking compact handsets.

One could argue that Apple is responding to market demand, as sales of the iPhone 14 Plus reportedly exceeded those of the iPhone 13 mini by 59%. Moreover, a significant 64% of all iPhone 14 sales were attributed to the Pro models, compared to just 11% for the Plus model, according to the same report.

Consequently, Apple may have concluded that while users favor larger phones over smaller ones, they also exhibit a preference for the Pro models over standard versions. The solution, then, seems to be increasing the size of the Pro iPhones. This approach aligns with the notion that if bigger phones are perceived as better, then better phones should be bigger.

Furthermore, if the iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max do indeed become larger, it could help Apple differentiate them further from the regular iPhone models, assuming the latter do not undergo a size increase as well.
