When Apple unveiled its Vision Pro Headset, one of the things that was mentioned is that the iPhone 15 Pro series could record spatial video that can be played on theVision Pro headset. However, the news was not really taken seriously as the headset itself was still not out in the market. However, it now looks like iPhone 15 Pro series users can start recording spatial videos on their devices.
In the new iOS 17.2 beta 2, testers noted that the ability to record Spatial Videos has been enabled and eligible devices will be able to use this feature to record some early content for their future Vision Pro Headsets. The real banger is that you will not need specialised equipments to record these videos. Just the main camera and ultra wide camera on the iPhone are ok.
Obviously, you can’t really view these videos as the hardware required is not yet in the market, but, if there are iOS apps that have been built using RealityKit, you can use these videos on them and get a feel of what you can expect with the actual headset.
If you happen to have an iPhone 15 Pro and have access to the iOS 17.2 beta 2, you can head over to the camera settings and toggle on the ‘Spatial Video for Apple Vision Pro Toggle’. Once this is done, simply open the Camera app and you will see a new Spatial tab. Select it and start recording your Spatial Video.
Apple has confirmed that once released, the Vision Pro will be able to record videos on its own, but the fact that you can do it with your iPhones as well, is definitely a sign of bigger things to come.
