Apex Legends upgrades for the PS5 and Xbox Series X / S consoles will be available tomorrow, in conjunction with the new Warriors collection event, according to Respawn Entertainment. The battle royale shooter has had shared versions across console generations until now. Console players will soon be able to join those on PC with support for natively rendered 4K (except on the Series S), HDR, improved shadow maps, and a greater level of detail distances when the update is published – generally around 1 PM ET.
All console versions are still limited to 60Hz gaming, with 120Hz support stated as a future upgrade (although, once the PS5 supports 120Hz output, it will be able to force it even on games that don’t have it built-in if you want to try it). Adaptive trigger and haptic support for the PlayStation 5 DualSense controller are also reported to be in the works.
The systems also differ in terms of how players would receive their updated versions. The Smart Delivery technology used by Microsoft on the Xbox Series X and Series S means that once the game is out, your console should automatically download the correct version without any involvement. It’s a tad more complicated on PlayStation. If you already have the game installed on your PS5, go to your Game Hub, click Options instead of Play Game, and instruct it to download the PS5 version. If you don’t have it installed but have already played it, simply look for it in your library and select the PS5 version when prompted.
The second half of Season 12 includes numerous patches across all consoles and PCs to prevent things like hackers enabling dual-wielding weapons and different flaws that may be used to abuse weapons with a charging system, such as the Rampage LMG or Sentinel sniper. There’s also a new set of aesthetic enhancements to purchase, as well as a new heirloom that players may use with the character Crypto.
With a few tweaks and a new map, the Warriors event will also bring back the Control limited-time mode for another two weeks. It was well-received by players the first time around, but there’s no news yet on whether it’ll become a regular component of the game or whether there will be even more ways to play that aren’t your typical battle royale arrangement.
