Andretti: I’m going to persuade Max Verstappen to race in IndyCar

Legendary Formula 1 driver and 1978 World Champion, Mario Andretti, has expressed his intention to have a conversation with Max Verstappen in an attempt to entice him to compete in the United States. Andretti, who also won the prestigious Indy 500 in 1969, revealed his plans during an interview with Dutch broadcaster Ziggo Sport at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

As the thrilling final lap of the Monaco Grand Prix unfolded, the eyes of the motorsport world were drawn to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the 2023 Indy 500. Josef Newgarden emerged victorious in a captivating battle with former F1 driver Marcus Ericsson. Meanwhile, Verstappen’s compatriot Rinus Veekay also briefly led during the 500-mile oval race.

Andretti, known for his versatile career across different motorsport disciplines, expressed his desire to convince Verstappen to consider a major career change once he has achieved greatness in Formula 1. During the interview, Andretti shared his perspective on the motorsport community, stating, “Motor racing is a big happy family if you will, all the different disciplines. But for me, I was interested and curious about riding it all, as you can see. I had the passion for all the top disciplines in our sport. And I’ve friends everywhere.”

With his illustrious career and connections in the racing world, Andretti has set his sights on Verstappen and his potential move to the United States. While acknowledging Verstappen’s current disinterest in participating in the Indy 500 and pursuing the coveted “Triple Crown” of motorsport, Andretti remained optimistic. Sporting a smile, Andretti confidently said, “I will persuade him,” leaving the nature of his persuasive powers to intrigue fans and enthusiasts alike.

Although Verstappen has not shown explicit interest in venturing beyond Formula 1, Andretti’s determination and influence within the motorsport community could make for an interesting discussion between the two champions. As Andretti sets his sights on Verstappen’s future accomplishments in Formula 1, he aims to convince the Dutch driver to consider the allure and challenge of the iconic Indy 500 and potentially expand his motorsport horizons in the future.
