Amazon’s CEO, Andy Jassy, announced the in-office mandate in February, and the company has since observed increased collaboration and connectivity among employees. However, some employees saw the policy as a blow, particularly as it coincided with widespread layoffs affecting around 27,000 workers that began in late 2022. In response to the return-to-office policy and the company’s environmental practices, hundreds of employees staged a walkout in May.
