The Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio has long been renowned for its high-performance capabilities as a four-door sports sedan. However, with the automaker announcing plans for an electric version of the next iteration, enthusiasts have been hesitant to embrace the change.
To address concerns, Alfa Romeo CEO Jean-Philippe Imparato recently reassured enthusiasts in an interview with Autocar. The upcoming Giulia EV will have a base model with 345 horsepower and a more powerful Veloce variant with upwards of 790 horsepower. The most powerful Quadrifoglio variant will feature an impressive 1,000 horsepower, almost double the current model’s output.
The Quadrifoglio is expected to come with all-wheel drive and utilize a setup similar to the Maserati Granturismo Folgore, featuring three electric motors and torque-vectoring capability. The EV’s range is expected to be around 435 miles, comparable to the current internal combustion version.
Imparato emphasized the importance of Alfa Romeo’s transformation into a fully electric brand, stating that it was necessary for the automaker’s survival. However, he also assured that the switch to EVs would be a positive experience for customers.
The new Giulia is likely to feature a fastback-style wagon design to appeal to a wider range of buyers. But, according to Imparato, it will still be the “Alfa Romeo we all want.” The vehicle is expected to arrive by the middle of the decade and will utilize Stellantis’ 800-volt electrical architecture and ride on the STLA platform.
Until then, Alfa Romeo enthusiasts can continue to enjoy the current Giulia, which includes the Quadrifoglio, GTA, and GTAm models.
