According to reports, Apple is still working on under-display Touch ID for iPhones

Touch ID enthusiasts, rejoice! Following years of speculations that Apple may still employ the Touch ID sensor in forthcoming iPhone models, and Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman recently claimed that Apple did test the finger biometric scanner for iPhone 13 models, it seems customers have one last chance.

According to yeux1122 on the Korean site Naver (via MacRumors), citing industry insiders, Apple aims to launch under-screen Touch ID two to three years after under-panel Face ID.

Presently, the under-panel Face ID is anticipated to debut with the iPhone 16 Pro series in 2024. Earlier, display expert Ross Young said that Apple had delayed to implement this technology, not because it cannot, but rather for marketing reasons.

Although Apple banked on the Dynamic Island for the iPhone 14 Pro models, the firm is apparently extending this cutout to all iPhone 15 models later this year; subsequently, with the iPhone 16 Pro, the Dynamic Island will be reduced owing to the under-display Face ID sensor.

Nevertheless, Young anticipates Apple will shift both the front-facing camera and the Face ID panel beneath the display by 2026, when we might see an under-panel Touch ID sensor.
