AI Video Calls: Realistic Conversations with Chatbot Lily
One of the standout announcements from Duocon 2024 is the AI-powered ‘Video Call with Lily’ feature. This unique capability allows users to engage in realistic conversations with Lily, a beloved virtual character from Duolingo. Designed to simulate natural dialogue, this feature offers users a personalized and interactive practice environment that adapts to their skill level. Whether users are beginners or advanced learners, they can practice speaking English, Spanish, or French in a low-pressure setting.
Currently, this innovative feature is available exclusively for Duolingo Max subscribers, which launched last year. The Max subscription costs $29.99 (approximately ?2,400) per month, or $239.99 (about ?19,960) for an annual family plan. While initially rolled out in countries like the US, UK, Canada, Australia, Ireland, and New Zealand, Duolingo plans to expand its availability to more regions in the near future.
Adventures: A Game-Like Learning Experience
In addition to the AI video calls, Duolingo introduced a new feature called Adventures. This game-like experience immerses users in interactive storylines that are rooted in real-life scenarios, such as ordering food or navigating travel situations. By engaging with characters and playing out various narratives, users can significantly improve their language skills in a fun and engaging manner. The Adventures feature will be accessible on both Android and iOS platforms, though the availability on the web client remains unconfirmed.
Expansion of Music Courses: Partnership with Loog
Duolingo is also expanding its educational offerings in music through a partnership with Loog, a manufacturer of portable instruments. This collaboration will allow users to practice Duolingo Music lessons on a newly designed three-octave digital piano. The Duolingo x Loog Piano is now available for pre-order on the company’s website, priced at $249 (approximately ?20,800).
