So, Google teased us with the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro during its fancy Made By Google event in early October. The spotlight feature for Pixel 8 Pro users, Video Boost, was a bit elusive at first, but guess what? It’s finally making its grand entrance this month.
Word on the digital street, thanks to some tech detectives at Android Authority, is that Video Boost is about to drop with the next Feature Drop for Google’s Pixel phones. If you’re into the nitty-gritty, they spotted this juicy detail in the latest Google Photos APK, which is essentially the file collection that makes up an Android app.
In the launch hoopla, Shenaz Zack Mistry, the Director of Product Management at Google, spilled the beans on Video Boost. It’s like a fancy video processing thingamajig that taps into the Pixel 8 Pro’s native machine learning and image processing, all powered up by its Tensor G3 chipset. But hold on, it doesn’t stop there—it also harnesses the mighty cloud computing power of Google.
So, how does this Video Boost magic work? You flick the switch before recording your video, and voila! After capturing your masterpiece (up to 4K resolution), you get a locally processed version on your device. At the same time, the footage takes a trip to Google’s servers, where they sprinkle some HDR Plus magic on every frame, just like they do with photos. The freshly processed clip then dances its way back to your phone, labeled with a fancy Video Boost tag.
