The Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray is a game-changer for the legendary sports car manufacturer. To commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Corvette moniker, Chevrolet has unveiled the all-wheel-drive, hybrid E-Ray, a vehicle that blends the sheer speed and traction with electric propulsion.
The engine is a classic naturally aspirated 6.2-litre small block V8 that produces 495 horsepower to the rear wheels only. The vehicle also comes with an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission. The inclusion of a 160-horsepower electric engine on the front axle, fueled by a 1.9 kWh battery positioned between the seats, distinguishes the E-Ray. This results in a total output of 655 horsepower for the E-Ray, allowing it to sprint to 60 mph in 2.5 seconds and cover a quarter-mile in 10.5 seconds.
The E-all-wheel-drive Ray’s technology is meant to react to road conditions and driver preferences, with six configurable modes determining the extent of electric assistance. The automobile can reach 45 mph on electric power alone in “Stealth” mode. Carbon ceramic brakes, Chevy’s adaptive magnetic ride control dampers, and a 12-volt battery to facilitate start/stop are also notable features.
The E-Ray is also broader than the normal Stingray, with 20-inch/21-inch larger alloy wheels and Michelin Pilot Sports tyres on the front and rear. The vehicle will be available in new body colours and finishes.
The Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray will go on sale later this year, with the 1LZ E-Ray coupe starting at $104,295 and the convertible starting at $111,295 USD. This new hybrid Corvette brings the American car’s passion, performance, and creativity to the next level, and is a step toward the brand’s greener future.
