10 ways you can make the best use of Apple Intelligence

WWDC 2024 saw the debut of Apple Intelligence, yes, Apple has finally jumped on the AI train, and the first thing they have done, is renamed the technology to ‘Apple Intelligence’. This is a very typical Apple thing to do, but what caught people off guard, was how Apple has wasted no time in developing their own AI technology and rather gone for a partnership with OpenAI.

What this means is that ChatGPT will power AI features across the device, including Siri. From what we understand, the all-new ChatGPT 4-o will be the flavour that Apple users will enjoy, and if the initial demo videos are anything to go by, we are in for something special.

Today, we are going to tell you 10 ways you can make the best use of Apple Intelligence (powered by ChatGPT)

Number 1. Do more with Siri

Apple announced at the WWDC 2024 event, that eligible iPhone and Mac devices will be running ChatGPT for free, and as a result, you will be able to access ChatGPT right from Siri and ask it questions that it will answer in a more personal style.

If you have some questions you want to ask Siri, about documents or files that you have saved on your device, you can do it, and Siri will answer you with relevant information.

Number 2. Autofill forms like a PRO

So, we all fill online forms on our smartphones, and more often than not, these forms require some sort of valid personal information. Currently, we have to rummage our gallery to look for the image of an ID that we may have saved, or worse, look through our wallets, grab the ID, and then fill in the form with the required information.

Now, with Apple Intelligence, you can simply ask Siri to look for a personal ID that you have saved on your device and autofill the form using the information on the ID. Does sound scary, but it is now possible.

Number 3. Take your in-app productivity to the next level

We use iPhone for a host of things, and one of the most popular use cases in recent times, is mobile photography. The superior iPhone camera has become a sort of industry standard and Apple Intelligence takes it to the next level.

Firstly, say you have taken photos of someone in an outfit that they like, and many months later, they ask you for those photos. Well, today, you have to browse your gallery, and if you are an avid photographer, the search is going to take a while, and sometimes, you may just evade the request by saying you deleted the photos.

But, with Apple Intelligence, you can simply ask Siri to look for photos of XYZ person, wearing XYZ outfit, and it will automatically browse your gallery and give you a condensed list of images that it thinks, suits the request. It may not always be 100% correct, but at the very least, you will get a good starting point.

The same goes with image editing, where we take photos, and spend a good amount of time editing them, to make them ‘good enough’ for social media or portfolio. Pro users know exactly where to get started with the editing, but the more beginner grade users may not know what to do. This is where Apple Intelligence comes in. You can simply open the image and ask Siri to make it look better, and it will auto edit the image in mere seconds. As mentioned earlier, it may not be the best, but you will get a good enough starting point.

Number 4. Make your photos picture perfect

Previously, we spoke about how you can use Apple Intelligence to enhance your images automatically. However, the advantage doesn’t end there. Say, you take a photo of a place or favourite person, but it accidentally gets photobombed by unaware public in the background. Normally, you would either live with it, or grab some sort of editing software and do your best to edit them out.

With Apple Intelligence, you can simply ask Siri to remove unwanted elements in your photo, and just like that, it will be done. This feature will most likely be a user favourite, as we all love our photos to be perfect, and finally, we will not require complicated and sometimes expensive editing software to get it done.

Number 5. Learn more about your iPhone than ever before

Have you ever been in a situation, where you know what you want from your iPhone, but cannot remember what the feature is called? Or maybe you want to achieve something on your iPhone and you are not able to figure it out? Thanks to Apple Intelligence, this problem too, has been addressed.

Just pull up Siri and explain what it is you want to do on your iPhone, and in mere seconds, you will receive step by step instructions that you can follow to achieve your target. This feature will allow iPhone users to know more about the device than ever before. Nice.

Number 6. Create custom emojis using Genmoji

Another cool feature that will ship with iOS 18 and Apple Intelligence, is Genmoji. Using this, you can simply type in the description of the emoji you want to create, and in a few seconds, the on-device AI will generate your custom emoji that you can send to your friends.

You can even choose photos of yourself or your friends to create custom emojis that look like them. While this feature may be a bit gimmicky, we are sure that people of all ages are going to enjoy creating these custom emojis.

Number 7. Generate images using AI, right on your device

Today, one of the applications that people use AI for, is image generation. The market is flooded with AI-powered image generators (both free and paid), and it is truly changing the way we interact with creative art. Thanks to Apple Intelligence, this AI-powered image generation will be possible, within your iPhone.

You can choose between various style of images, and we are glad to see that Apple has stuck to the more artistic styles, as they usually churn out more artistic or cartoonish images, rather than those freakishly accurate realistic images. This will hopefully curb misuse.

Once generated, you can save and share these images with your friends, or across apps.

Number 8. Convert your sketch to high-quality image using Image Wand

Say you are working on a presentation and have prepared a rough sketch of a certain element. Well, you can now use Image Wand, and Apple Intelligence will convert the rough sketch into a full fledged high-quality image. These will take your reports and presentations to the next level.

Number 9. Text manipulation with tone editing

ChatGPT started off as a very smart chatbot, and one of the things it was used for, was generating and editing text. Apple Intelligence will also allow you to perform these tasks. It will be able to generate new text, proofread and edit existing text, or even change the tone of the text through toneGen.

While this is something that will trigger ‘AI Detectors’, we need to concede that AI is here to stay, and many users will be making use of these text editing features to step up their writing game.

Number 10. Record and Transcribe your calls

Last, but by no means the least, iOS 18 and Apple Intelligence will now allow users to record their phone calls. What’s more, if the call you recorded is very important, and contains quotes that you may want to use in a report or blog, you can even transcribe the recorded call and very easily extract the important dialogues from the conversation.

Call recording was a long requested feature on iOS devices, and we finally have it coming with the new update.

WWDC 2024 was definitely an eventful experience for the attendees and those who caught all the action online. It looks like AI has finally entered the Apple ecosystem, and there is no looking back now. It will be interesting to see if Apple will develop an AI model of their own, but until then, it is going to be a collaboration with OpenAI, which is not necessarily a bad thing.
